Pathways provides recreational art for women experiencing challenging situations in their lives. A range of facilitators respond to participants’ ideas, aptitudes and circumstances, which allows them women to speak and be heard.
A central element of the programme works with residents and staff in a women’s medium secure unit in the South West. Sharing an ethos of non-judgement, the residents support themselves and each other as they develop their visual art skills, their capacity to make choices and their ability to communicate.
The programme is currently taking pilot projects out to other services, offering
creative opportunities to women who are in prison, on probation, homeless or trapped in street sex work.
"I love it, I really enjoy (…) that I can share with the women. Something that’s not work, so I can bring myself into it, without revealing personal stuff… when we work in a service that is so boundaried… it’s very positive."
